You may be tempted to skip this step but don t.

When you pour the epoxy it can cause the bottle caps to shift if they are loose ruining your pattern.
In the video you will see that we used the seal coat as our glue to hold down the bottle caps so they are securely fastened to the surface and do not float to the top of the flood coat.
So make sure the bottle caps are tightly secured.
Then build a barrier around the table with duct tape to prevent the resin from dripping out.
Pouring epoxy too thick can ruin an entire project.
First layout your bottle caps on the surface of your table.
Glue the caps to the table.
As previously mentioned most coating epoxies like table top bar top epoxy require thin pours of no more than 1 4 inch per application.

When you re happy with the layout glue the bottle caps in place.
They might even float to the top of the epoxy surface.

To ensure all of the gaps in between the bottle caps are filled use a float to spread the epoxy evenly over the top of the table.

After moving our collection with us to 4 different homes in 3 different states we now have enough caps for this table plus a few matching stools.
One idea we are currently exploring is the use of a very thick 1 4 inch layer of exterior polyurethane.

However we have not come up with a good method for sealing the gaps between the caps in order to create a smooth level table top.
For a table that is to be 2 thick this would require 9 pours of epoxy including the seal coat.
