Automated cleaning technology such as robot vacuums open new possibilities but current robotic vacuums cannot access multi story homes because they do not climb stairs. Cleaning stairs is one of the things it can t do. For the first 4 months that we were a roomba household we only let our roomba run on the first floor. In many cases it does a wonderful job of cleaning under things.

Most people are worried about the roomba falling down stairs. There are some reports of roomba s not handling stairs well like the roomba crashing down the stairs. 3 you cannot program roomba s mapping without any hacking. But it does clean the carpets. What it can and cannot do. I m not saying a roomba can go down stairs. Can roombas climb the stairs.

Just because it didn t doesn t mean it won t. 4 it is not able to climb or go down stairs answered by lymb 3 years ago. The irony of it is that there s a clamor for something that the robot is designed to avoid in the first place. It x2019 s not fast it x2019 s not smart it needs your help x2026.

The robot has flawless navigation stellar cleaning and advanced features which sets it apart from all other vacuum robots available in the market. There are many things a roomba can do and many things it can t do. I ve only heard of this on older models. So roombaand stairs definitely do not go well together.

There are infrared sensors mounted underneath pointing straight downward so roomba can detect what it calls cliffs stairs and steep drops. It can clean under the bed under the table et cetera. I have the roomba 890 it fell down the stairs going to the entryway only 4 steps scared the hell out of me but it is still ok working great. I was really worried about a relatively expensive piece of hardware tumbling down the stairs and falling into tiny little pieces.

The roomba has come a long way when it comes to churning out state of the art cleaning features but after all these years it still can t climb up the stairs.
